School Bus Rock – 1979

This is a selection of tunes that were released in the year 1979. The Disco age was almost done and there was a lot of new styles of music coming out. It was also the year I began my last year of High School, Grade 13. While I was in High School we had a Juke Box in the cafeteria where a quarter would get you multiple songs so as student we were exposed to a lot of music! Sadly, today the music scene is largely controlled by the large corporations in order to garner big profits.

NOTABLE ARTISTS

Led Zeppelin

In 1979, Led Zeppelin released what I consider to be their final album and that was due to the death of drummer, Jon Bonham. There was one more album in 1982, but that contained music that had previously been created.

Frank Zappa

Frank is considered a musical genius, but his music is not for everyone. He was also responsible to launching the careers of other artists and that included the band Alice Cooper.

NOTABLE TRACKS

Pop Musik

During the summer I was reminded of this tune after seeing a video of a dance troupe doing an amazing routine to this. The song lyrics lists a huge range of bands and people involved in music.

Hot Stuff

This track by Donna Summer was one of the last songs of the Disco era. Personally, I thought Disco sucked and was not a fan. There were; however, some artists, like Donna Summer and KC & The Sunshine Band who has some great tunes.

Dancin’ Fool

Frank Zappa was a musical genius but he was not known for making hit song. This particular tune did make the charts and it was one that made fun of Disco dancing!

CANADIAN ARTISTS

Neil Young

Neil was in several big band including The Mynah Birds (with Rick James), Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (CSNY). He had a big solo career. While he is Canadian, he has lived most of his life outside of the country.
