Safety Tip

Remain Seated While Bus is Moving

While the bus in is motion it is important to remain seated. The back of the seat in front of you will keep you protected should something unexpected were to happen. If you are standing up or in the aisle you will lose that protection and you will be putting yourself at risk of serious injury.

Be aware while crossing road.

For those that cross the road to get to and from the bus need to be very careful to keep on eye on all vehciels. There are distracted and idiot drivers who will run the red lights even as you are trying to cross. NEVER count on another person to keep yourself safe. Also, far too many are glued to their Smartphones which is not a smart thing to do while crossing a road. You may have the right-of-way but that does not guarentee that others will give it to you.

Wait for the Red Lights

It is important to understand the yellow flashing lights are simply warning drivers that the bus is approaching a stop. Drivers can still legally pass a bus with yellow flashing lights and some will even do it. You need to assume that those drivers will always try to pull a stunt like that. That means you need to wait a safe distance from the edge of the road and wait for the red flashing lights. Keep your attention on the vehicles to your left and to your right and cross when you know its safe to do so.

General Bus Safety

It is my job as the Bus Driver to keep you as safe as I can, but bus drivers can’t do everything. You too, can contribute to your own safety. You simply need to ask yourself if your behaviour could put you in danger in less than optimal situations.

The seats are designed so that if there is an actual accident your body would hit the back of the seat in front of you. If you are positioned out in the aisle then the seat in front of you may not stop you. If that happens, know that the front or the back of the bus will be the barrier you hit. The inertial energy involved could be very damaging. The bottom line is to THINK about your behaviour and how it may impact your safety.
