School Bus Rock – More 90s
This playlist contains a variety of tracks from the 90s of which none would be considered Grunge.
NOTABLE ARTISTS
Smash Mouth
Smash Mouth tunes will be familar to fans of the Shrek movies. Two of their tunes were featured in the Shrek movies.
Garbage
I like Garbage. Just the name is noteworthy! Garbage, with lead singer, Shirley Manson, had several hits during the early 90s and they are still touring today.
Oasis
Oasis has many fans and is a band that features the brothers, Liam and Noel Gallagher. Oasis started in the early 90s but broke up in 2009 due to a family feud between Liam and Noel. In 2024, Liam and Noel reconciled and have started touring again.
Notable Tracks
The Impression That I Get
This track is from the ska band, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. During the 90s ska was making a comeback with bands like this and No Doubt.
Nothing Else Matters
In the 90s, heavy metal band Metallica released the self titled album Metallica. The track called Enter Sandman introduced Metallica to the mainstream. It was a good tune, but my favorite track from the album is Nothing Else Matters. It is one of those tunes that starts slow and builds as the song progresses to a climax where it drops off to a soft ending. It is similar in structure to songs like Supertramp’s Rudy, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Freebird and Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven.
CANADIAN ARTISTS
Barenaked Ladies is the only Canadian band that is one this playlist. When they came out some politicians tried to virtue signal their disdain for their name as they claimed is it objectified women. Virtue signaling is such a selfish and empty practice. Toronto Mayor June Rowlands would not allow the Barenaked Ladies to play a New Year’s eve show just because of their name. The band got revenge after Rowlands tried to award them with the key to the city. They refused to come out to the stage for Rowlands during the ceromony. It was one of those great moments in Toronto politics. Got to love it when politicians get their just desserts!
Barenaked Ladies are also known for creating the theme song of the TV series, The Big Bang Theory.
